Wellness & sports wrap up

As the end of fall sports season wraps up here at SRU teams look for their final push in the standings for postseason play. The women's field hockey team defeated Mercyhurst this weekend at home 2-1 in a shootout, while boys soccer had a tough loss 3-1 to Seton Hill. The basketball team starts up their season in 2 weeks traveling to IUP for a preseason tournament. At this point in the year no one could have thought we would see weather like this, it is important to do activities outside while you can. When the weather changes and gets colder it is still important to get out and go somewhere to get active. It is important to still have an activity to free your mind from school or stress so even when you can't go golfing in this bad weather so you look into an inside activity that deals with golf.

Lifting Routine

It is important to maintain a good schedule for lifting and most important stay consistent. You do not have to lift every day of the week to stay in shape it matters what you do on your off days and eat as well. Depending on what your goal is to build muscle or try to lose weight will effect how much you want to lift and how many reps. If you are trying to bulk up and build more muscle you would have to lift heavier for less reps and eat more protein to try and build muscle mass. On the other end if you are trying to lose some weight you would mix in more cardio and lift lighter for more reps while watching what you eat. On off days a walk is a great low intensity activity to keep your body in shape and let you mind wonder. Another great exercise would be stretching, this speeds up the recovery process and helps sore muscles. The last thing to remember is to listen to your body and give it rest when you feel that you need it and not over work yourself to an injury.

Life outside school

While handling your schoolwork and having that as your number one priority it is important to have an activity outside of school. Maintaining a healthy activity to keep your mind off of school and have an escape is crucial for your mental health. Wether there is a little activity that you enjoy and are able to do that will distract you and not stress you out. Often times student use physical activity if that is as intense as lifting or a relaxing day golfing, both activities allow someone to take their mind off things in a healthy manor. Your production in school will increase if you take some appropriate time away from school and not overload yourself. It is important to pick an activity that you will still gain something and are still productive, although it is needed to unplug and take a TV break if you make that a habit it will negatively affect your life. Going out and doing an activity is super important not to stress yourself out, it is important to put yourself first.
